Legislative Issues

Hawaii ACEP represents the rights and interests of our members and patients in the state capitol of Honolulu. As a strong and unified medical specialty organization, we lobby for numerous legislative initiatives to empower emergency physicians and protect our patients.
In 2022, we advocated for expanded access to care, improved behavioral health and substance abuse resources, and increased housing for the homeless population. We plan to continue this work during the 2023 session.

2023 Legislative Session: January 18th-May 4th

HACEP has released its 2023 Legislative Priorities.

Hawaii ACEP’s Legislative Committee will hold standing weekly legislative meetings during the session at a time to be announced. These meetings are open to all members.

The state legislature is actively in session and many of the drafted bills could directly affect our patients and practice if adopted. In addition to reviewing legislative priorities, the weekly meeting will provide updates on relevant bills as they pass through the legislative process, a review of testimony provided for priority bills, and any updates on meetings with legislators or advocacy groups.

As frontline health workers and community providers, our voice has an impact. Hawaii ACEP is here to advocate for you, but we need your input. Please contact the chapter for Zoom details to join the weekly standing legislative meeting. Or, please feel free to email Dr. Beth England, Chair of the Legislative Committee with any concerns or suggestions you may have for any bills.
