Hawaii ACEP
Hawaii ACEP
Hawaii ACEP was founded in 1971 and actively represents more than 100 of Hawaii’s emergency physicians, residents and medical students working at hospitals throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The island state of Hawaii brings unique challenges to emergency physicians, and the chapter’s Board of Directors meets every other month to discuss and address those challenges, welcoming member input in the process.
Dr. Fred Holschuh 2010 Physician of the Year
The Hilo Medical Center Foundation and Hawaii County Medical Association named Dr. Fred Holschuh the 2010 Physician of the Year for his 30-year career as an emergency physician in Hawaii. He has been an ACEP member since 1972 and was a founder of Hawaii ACEP, serving as its second president. Congratulations Dr. Holschuh!
Legislative Initiatives
Hawaii ACEP represents the rights and interests of our members and patients in the state capitol of Honolulu. As a strong and unified medical specialty organization, we lobby for numerous legislative initiatives to empower emergency physicians and protect our patients. Recent activities include support of emergency physician tax credit legislation, and legislation that mandates transparency in the allocation of health insurance premiums. Some of the most exciting legislative news in recent years pertains to a new tax credit for emergency physicians who work a minimum of 576 on-call hours in a state-approved emergency departments.
